Facebook is developing technology devices that can send messages by just reading minds, without typing.

Facebook stated that the project was almost completed after being tested on 3 epilepsy sufferers with 9 simple questions such as, "When do you want me to check?" Conducted by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco.

The machine learns the pattern of algorithms through words from brain activity directly which allows the system to guess when they will get questions and when they have to answer them. Prediction is formed by the previous context after the system determines which subjects are heard, so that it can answer the questions correctly.

This system has proven the accuracy of the answers by 61 to 76 percent. But it can only detect a few words so far. Facebook still has to work hard in developing features so that the device is easier to use.

"Although the future is still far away, the initial trial phase as now is the starting point for that hope," Facebook said on its website, Tech.fb.com, July 30, 2019.

This discovery helped them develop easy-to-use technologies such as augmented reality glasses, so that humans can connect in real terms, without using a smartphone.

Regina Dugan, who once led the project, said Facebook wanted to create a system without voice command that could type 100 words per minute using the mind. This will be 5 times faster if someone types from a cellphone.

"This tool will connect someone to the surrounding world, rather than looking down at a mobile phone screen or using a laptop, we can make eye contact and get useful information without misrepresenting a meaning," as written on the Facebook page.

Other research teams, including Stanford University, have found a way for this tool to be used by people with paralysis. But to do that, it is necessary to operate electrodes in the brain. Facebook hopes to create technologies that are easy to use and not invasive.

Previously, Facebook had faced a series of scandals regarding privacy and security relating to the user's personal data. The bad image of Facebook is expected to make users alert to give them access to mind reading.

Facebook first announced that Building 8 is working on a brain computer technology project in 2017 at the F8 conference. The initial purpose of this project was developed for a system of detecting unspoken sentences.

Similar to Facebook, the company Elon Musk is also developing a start-up project called Neuralink that can connect the brain to computer devices.
