The Paris City Government plans to provide a flying taxi service for visitors to the 2024 Olympics.

This air taxi service includes the route from the airport, which is the place of arrival for visitors, to the location of the match.

"At present, visitors need about one hour by train or bus from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the City of Paris," as reported by Channel News Asia on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

The idea is that Olympic visitors can directly use the air taxi service once they land at the airport. They can take air taxis that can fly alone or self-flying urban taxis.

Air transport manufacturing companies such as Airbus promote transport vehicles with the concept of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL).

The company will start a feasibility study to find out in detail the feasibility of air taxi transportation.

"In 2010, for the first time, more than half of humanity lived in cities. And we think, this number will exceed 60 percent by 2030, "said Guillaume Faury, Airbus CEO.

This shows that it is time for the development of three-dimensional transportation facilities, namely air commuter.

"If we believe in five, 10, 15, 20 or 30 years more low altitude air transportation will develop, we must start exploring today," said Edward Arkwright, Executive Director of ADP Group.

At present, Paris faces the problem of building a fast railroad infrastructure from the airport to the city center. This is designed to unravel congestion on the highway.

Authorities will find the right location as an air taxi base or called Vertiport. This location will accommodate an air taxi fleet that serves the 10th aerodome line, which is the location of the Olympic Games.

The government plans to develop Vertiport in 18 months. The investment in infrastructure development is about US $ 11.3 million.

This air taxi fleet will fly serving a route that is also commonly used by helicopters.

At present, Airbus, which cooperates with the French government, has prepared two air taxi prototypes, one seat called Vahana. And the four seater variant or called CityAirbus.

"This cooperation is a unique opportunity to develop technological solutions, products, regulatory frameworks and economic models," Faury said about the development of this flying taxi.
